Sebaceous glands are usually found at or near a hair follicle through which they secrete sebum, an oily substance that keeps the skin and hair lubricated and supple.
A follicle may become blocked, usually by a mixture of excess sebum and dead skin cells and a white plug forms over the pore or opening. The sebum unable to escape, builds up in the blocked follicle.
Bacteria normally present on the skin may infect the sebum causing inflammation, pus and the swelling that is a pimple.Kuman - kuman yang terdapat pada tangan yang kotor.

- Influenza A - Penyebab radang paru - paru.
- Haemophilus - Penyebab jangkitan mata yang mudah merebak.
- Streptococci group A - Penyebab sakit kerongkong.
- Proteus - Penyebab jangkitan saluran kencing.
- Klebsiella - Penyebab jangkitan luka.
- Basillus Species - Komensal biasa.
- Escherichia Coli (E.Coli) - Penyebab cirit - birit & jangkitan saluran kencing yang menyenakkan.
- Bacteroides - Penyebab jangkitan telinga & saluran peranakan.
